Creating the Best Place for Women to Work

The Challenge

Walmart wanted to become the best place for women to work at all levels of the organization.

The Solution

The strategic plan centered on four objectives: communicate opportunities for women to grow and thrive; collect and tell the stories of women who built a career at Walmart; use the stories to build a culture of empowerment; and drive awareness of Walmart’s efforts to empower women globally, encourage women to participate and engage partners to help achieve the goals.


With a goal of collecting 200 video stories, we collected 720 personal stories about what working at Walmart has allowed female associates to achieve. A log was developed to easily identify all women’s initiatives, as well as a toolkit for leaders to use when sharing information about the programs with associates and potential partners. Annual survey results will be monitored to determine progress toward the goal.
